TCS Nashik case: NCW flags ‘toxic work culture’, ‘zero POSH compliance’ The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday (May 11, 2026) slammed Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for its alleged failure to comply with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, observing that there was pervasive harassment, religious denigration, systemic bullying and exertion of fear and pressure imposed by a toxic leadership at its Nashik office. Many victims who wanted to complain could not do so due to “complete absence of any formal complaint mechanism and a trustworthy environment”, the NCW’s fact-finding committee said, adding Gen Z employees were more susceptible to anti-religious discourse. Nine FIRs have so far been registered in cases of alleged rape, sexual harassment and forcible conversions at TCS Nashik, with the police arresting nine accused. The NCW, which had taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, submitted a 50-page report to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday (May 8), containing 25 recommendations. “A Fact-Finding Committee was established, comprising Justice Sadhna Jadhav (retired Judge, Bombay High Court), Shri B.K. Sinha (former DGP, Haryana), advocate Monika Arora (Supreme Court), and Ms. The committee visited Nashik on April 18 and 19, 2026, where they interacted with victims, POSH Internal Committee (IC) members of TCS, police officers, and other key witnesses. Based on the inquiry, the committee prepared a detailed report,” the NCW said in a statement. In yet another case of a senior citizen being targeted through a “digital arrest” scam, an 87-year-old retired executive from Pune was allegedly duped of Rs 3.46 crore by cyber fraudsters posing as senior CBI officials, who threatened him with arrest in a fake money laundering case. The Pune city cyber police recently registered an FIR against unidentified persons involved in the scam, which allegedly took place between February 21 and April 16 this year. HOW THE ‘DIGITAL ARREST’ UNFOLDED According to investigators, the fraud began when the complainant received a video call from a man claiming to be an employee of a telecom company. The caller allegedly informed him that his mobile number was linked to a CBI investigation and that senior officers would soon contact him. Shortly afterwards, another individual dressed in a police uniform allegedly appeared on a video call and claimed that a warrant had been issued against the victim. The fraudster reportedly told the octogenarian that the inquiry would be conducted virtually due to his advanced age. The victim was then contacted by another fraudster, who introduced himself as “CBI Director Samadhan Pawar”.

During the proceedings, the Court was informed that multiple representations have already been filed with the CJI regarding the cancellation of the 2026 examination. Observing that it would be more appropriate for the Court’s ends of justice to be served, the Bench said the petitioners should compile all grievances into a single, comprehensive submission addressed to the Chief Justice.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi emphasised that High Courts and investigating agencies should coordinate to streamline bail proceedings and curb needless delays. In recent months, the Supreme Court has repeatedly underscored that repeated adjournments and growing pendency in High Courts directly impact the constitutional right to personal liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution. The Court also directed High Courts to develop mechanisms to ensure bail matters are decided within fixed timeframes. It further cautioned against routine grant of adjournments to Union or State governments in cases involving personal liberty.
